How to make homemade flan with bread
This homemade flan with bread is made with a combination of simple ingredients. We start by preparing the caramel and pouring it into the chosen mold. Then we infuse the orange or lemon peel in the milk. In a bowl, mix the sliced bread with the infused milk, sugar, eggs and vanilla essence to obtain a creamy mixture. If desired, add nuts, raisins or chocolate. We pour the mixture into the caramelized mould and bake it in a bath for approximately 45-50 minutes at 140°C. After cooling for two hours, unmold and serve.
Ingredients
- 200-220 grams of sugar
- 500 cubic centimeters of milk
- Orange peel, lemon or a combination of both
- 250 grams of milk or hard bread from the day before
- A little vanilla essence
- 135 grams of white sugar or ruby sugar
- 3 units of huevo
- Tropezones de nueces, avellanas, raisins or chocolate chips (optional)
Method of preparation
- We start by preparing the caramel. In a previously heated pot or pan, add sugar and let it melt without removing it. Once the sugar is melted and acquires an amber color, remove it carefully.
- We add another part of the sugar and let it form sugar pellets. We repeat this process once more with the third part of the sugar.
- Turn the caramel over and let it set.
- Cut off the skin of the selected citrus fruit and add it to the milk to infuse.
- Change the milk or hard bread from the day before and put it in a bowl. Add the infused milk and let it stand for 5-10 minutes.
- Add the sugar and eggs to the bowl. Beat everything with a whisk or liqueur machine until you get a creamy consistency.
- If you like, you can add nuts, hazelnuts, raisins or chocolate chips to the mix.
- Pour the mixture into the caramel mold and cover with aluminum foil.
- Place the mold in an oven preheated to 140 degrees, in a water bath (with a little water in a lower tray).
- Braise for about 45-50 minutes until the flan is firm.
- Let the flan cool for at least 2 hours before unmolding it.
